In a feature article from connect magazine, there was a story about a new Salt Lake City Utah based promotion agency called MINDWISE. It took me a couple searches to find their website, which currently isn’t built out, though the article says they have officially opened for business and “…already engineered a slew of promotions locally and is in talks with various companies to handle upcoming events, promotions and sponsorships next year.”
I’ve never heard of a group calling themselves specifically a “Promotions Agency” before, though many other types of agencies seem to generate unique promotional items for their clients. MINDWISE’s home page describes them like this:
…MINDWISE helps companies increase revenue and brand experience through channels such as face to face marketing, sampling, events, promotions, sponsorships, partnerships, sales support and other tactics. WISE tactics-MIND blowing results.
The article in connect even goes so far to say that promotion agencies have industry-wide revenues topping 5 Billion dollars. Since the company will not provide any design, creative, media placement or other services typically handled by advertising agencies or in-house advertising departments, the question is what will they do? The article continues lists a few examples:
…face-to-face marketing, sampling, event marketing, promotions, sponsorships, partnerships, sales promotions and other guerrilla strategies.
So naturally, I got curious about “Promotion Agencies” and did a few online searches. Several of the searches landed me at PROMO Magazine, which seems to be an industry publication for such agencies. After clicking through a few links and reading a couple case studies, I have a much clearer picture of what a promotion agency is and does.
