Allison Williams of the tribeca, ny based design firm ‘design mw’ will speak about the myriad things she has helped create at the company she founded with her husband, jp williams, over a decade ago. she will also talk about other aspects of the work at mw that never quite become tangible objects, but have a weight of their own.

The Salt Lake Arts Center is located in downtown Salt Lake just south of the Abravanel Symphony Hall. Please carpool and arrive early. Parking validations are available at the ticket table for parking at Crossroads Mall across the street.

Design: mw Bio:
Design: mw, is a New York City based company that specializes in establishing the images of clients worldwide through collateral, packaging, websites, and advertising. Current projects include a worldwide corporate stationery program for Tiffany and Co., and a collateral program for Westin hotels worldwide. Design: mw has done extensive brand development work for West Elm and Takashimaya New York including direct mail catalogs, advertising, and packaging programs.

Our international clients include: Banana Republic, Büttenpapierfabrik Gmund, Carlyle & Co. Jewelers, Champion International, Christofle, Chronicle Books, Coach, Clinique, Crane Paper, Domtar, Hearst Publishing, Isabella Rossellini’s Manifesto for Lancaster Cosmetics, Maclaren, Marshall Fields, Marc Jacobs Perfume, Martha Stewart Living, Michael Kors, Mohawk Paper, Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, Sony Style, Sotheby’s, Starwood, The Limited, Target, Tiffany & Co., Vera Wang, Wilson/Wenzel, and West Elm.

Design: mw has received numerous awards internationally for their design work. Highlights include a Gold Clio award, Best of Category: Design and Best of Category: Packaging from ID magazine, Deutscher Preis fur Kommunicationsdesign: “Hochste Designqualitat”, Red Dot “best of the best” award, a Silver medal from the Society of Publication Designers, Distinctive Merit Awards from the Art Directors Club, Critics Choice awards from The Big Crit and The Type Directors Club. Their work has been recognized by a variety of international publications including Communication Arts, How, Graphis, Lurzers Archive, Step, and Print, +81 Japan, as well as by the AIGA, American Center for Design 100, Red Dot, and British D&AD.

The firm is headed by two partners, JP Williams and Allison Muench Williams.

Prior to the formation of design: mw, JP Williams was the Senior Art Director for Bergdorf Goodman for three years. Responsibilities included the national advertising campaign, catalogs, specialty mailings and the Bergdorf Goodman Mens store identity and packaging. Previously Williams worked at Anspach Grossman Portugal as a designer of large scale identity programs for Fortune 500 companies. He holds a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and a Masters Degree from Yale University. He has written several articles on design issues for Communication Arts magazine and was part time faculty at The University of the Arts in Philadelphia.

Prior to the formation of design: m/w, Allison Muench Williams was a design director at Carbone Smolan Associates, where she worked for nine years. A graduate of Rhode Island School of Design, she is a visiting critic at Yale University and has given lectures, workshops and judged competitions internationally.
